The Brewer's Corner -Frank Fermino, Head Brewer John Harvard’s Brew House

Welcome once again to the John Harvard’s Brew House “Brewer’s Corner”, where we provide information and entertain everyone with the inner workings of the brew house here in our little corner of the world. As always, if there’s something you would like to know concerning the beer at John Harvard’s or beer in general, feel free to email the restaurant and address the email to “The Brewer’s Corner”.

FIRST SIP

Football season is in full gear and here at JH we are having fun watching the games and competing as well with our weekly pool. If you haven’t played yet, there is still time to get in on the fun and excitement. Just spend ten dollars or more during a visit anytime and get a free pick sheet to play for an opportunity to win a catered Super Bowl party as well as weekly prizes.

Also the month of November means its Mug Club renewal time. If you are a current Mug Club member you should start seeing notices go out to renew. If you are not a Mug Club member but want to be, its time to get on the waiting list! It’s also a busy time in the brew house making autumn themed beers and trying to keep the fermenters full as the Holiday shopping season is now upon us. Times may be tough but everyone likes to unwind just a bit and we always provide the best and freshest beer around along with our good sized food portions. Be sure to stop in, relax, and keep the economy in motion.

Lastly I’d like to say thanks for a record setting depletion of the Oktoberfest. It went faster than in years past, as did our Irish beers. In fact, if you were here for our Half-Way to St. Patty’s Day event you know how much fun it was and you’ll be happy to know that the bagpipe band will be back for the real thing in March.

HALF GLASS

Currently on tap is the John Harvard’s Light and our Flagship John Harvard’s Pale Ale. In addition to these standard offerings, we have the Foo Fighter IPA, Brown Eyed Girl, Doctor Metal’s Dark Lager, Harvest Ale made with many different types of malt and a touch of molasses, ginger, and cinnamon, and a Steam style beer. The N.F.aLe will be on next when one of these beers kicks. So far I have been able to keep a constant stock of cask-conditioned beers on as well, so be sure to ask for some the next time you are in. Currently we have a dry hopped cask of IPA and some Harvest Ale on deck. As always, cask beers are limited in quantity so get it while you can.

THE FINISHING GULP

Upcoming beers for November and into December will include another batch of N.F.aLe, a Baltic-style Porter which is an imperial style porter brewed with lager yeast, a new red ale made with rye malt, and a Scottish style ale. We will also try to introduce some flavors of fall with some pumpkin and cranberry beers. The best way to do this is still being explored. Don’t forget about our growlers to go and Loyalty Club benefits. Feel free to ask your server for details upon your next visit. That’s about all for now.
